OIT testing is when the antioxidant stabilizer system present in the polymer sample that inhibits oxidization is measures while the sample is held isothermally at a specified temperature in a stream of oxygen.

Antioxidants and stabilizers are included in the polyethylene to inhibit oxidation, to protect it during porcessing and fabrication and to extend the life of the material.
